Depressed Wife? How To Help Her

Do you fear that your wife is suffering from depression? If so, then she will need to seek some help because this is a problem that just won’t go away on its own. Depression is a vicious cycle that will continue repeating until something is introduced to break the cycle and help put your wife on the path to a more positive frame of mind.
While professional help may be needed, if your wife is not quite ready to start therapy sessions, I will present to you here, 3 ways that you can help your depressed wife from spinning downwards even further. Once you have learned the steps of how to deal with the situation, you can work towards getting back to a happy life once again.

1. Get her into an exercise routine with you. Science has shown that exercise is a leading benefactor to helping with depression. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals and hormones that are positive and will not allow for the negativity to remain. Although the complete understanding of how the body works to bring your body and mind together is still being studied, the end result is that you have a clearer mind and feel more alive.
The core theory of how exercise can help is based on the idea that neurotransmitters like serotonin which are known to “give us a happy feeling” work together to make us healthier both in body and in mind. Working together with the creation of endorphins the body and mind are left feeling a reduced amount of negativity and pain. The combination of both serotonin and endorphins work to help a depressed person feel more alive and positive.
2. There are certain foods that also help increase the production of serotonin. Make sure that she gets a healthy serving daily of the recommended food choices. As was mentioned before, serotonin helps us feel happy. If your wife consumes more of these types of food she will begin to feel better on a daily basis. So it is a good practice to find out what these powerful sources of food are and incorporate them into your diet so your wife will start to feel better and want to do more in life. Some foods that are good for helping produce these neurotransmitters are carbohydrates and tryptophan. Always keeping in mind that complex carbohydrates are a better choice than the simple ones.
In order to help your wife heal her depression, make sure she eats lots of whole grains with a ton of vegetables(these are an example of a complex carbohydrate), lean meat, turkey, and fish(this is one of the best sources for tryptophan).

3. Help her to avoid certain foods. This works with the same principle. Just as there are certain foods that will help increase the production of the neurotransmitters that are beneficial for helping depression, so also are there foods that will work to slow down the production of serotonin. These types of foods include those that are high in protein but low in cholesterol, sugar and fat. Watch how much is eaten of almonds, apples, cow’s milk, bread rolls, salmon, coconuts, walnuts, rice, sunflower seeds, and goose as these can decrease serotonin levels immensely.

If you learn to establish a new diet that is rich in the foods that help produce the all important neurotransmitters your wife will need to overcome her depression, and cut down or avoid the foods that will only result in making things worse, you should soon start to see some real changes in your wife’s overall health and attitude.
If you have a depressed wife, don’t think that it will just go away by itself. Professional counseling might be needed. However, until then take the steps above to ease the symptoms.
